Toronto "Drake" Raptors

Whether you are a fan of Drake, The Toronto Raptors, or you really don't care about either one, this video shows the support for a city in which a celebrity or sports team can bring a city.

This year Drake became the Toronto Raptors "Global Ambassador." The details of this position are unclear.

We do know a few things:

  • Drake was apart of the new conference in Toronto announcing that Toronto will host the 2016 NBA All-Star game.
  • Drake stars in this Toronto Raptors pride video, for the start of the new Raptors season.

It is rumored that Drake will be launching a new clothing line in conjunction with his new position with  the team. He also is said to be in the planning process for the re-branding of the Toronto Raptors which is set to take place in 2014-2015, the teams 20th year anniversary.

Drake's celebrity status is no doubtably being used to pump up ticket sales and Raptors pride, but does it matter. Drake is a huge success the fact that he wants to give back to his hometown is refreshing.

Modern Day Grassroots

Chance The Rapper does things his way. He is using the new era of social media and technology to promote himself. He uses a modern day version of grassroots marketing. This allows him to control everything he does. He doesn't have a label telling him what to do. He does what he wants and promotes himself through free mix tapes and tours across the country. He has been wildly successful so far showing that if done right there isn't a need for a big record label.

Professional Twitter Beef

Twitter is a great way for a sports team to promote itself and stay connected with its fans. This weekend  two NFL teams took to there official twitter pages to do some trash talking before there upcoming game.
The Broncos first sent out this tweet in what seems to be an innocent stat in support of there big victory on Sunday, but surely they had to understand the negative light it put on the Jaguars team.

The Jaguars had a decision to make, either to ignore the tweet or stand up say something about it. They chose to address the tweet by responding to the Broncos.

The Broncos didn't back down from the comments and in a sense promoted even it more the fact.

Though the statistic is true, the question is whether or not it should be sent out to the world, especially on an official NFL team twitter.

Miley Moment

Michael Jordan watching the Miley Cyrus "23" video, or at least a finely edited scene of Michael Jordan from "Space Jam" with the Miley video showing on the TV rather than Jordan's attempt at baseball.

As the old saying goes NBA players want to be rappers and rappers want to be NBA players.

I Quit (with style)

Work: Google search results defined as...
  1. activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
  2. mental or physical activity as a means of earning income; employment.
Quit: Google search results defined as...
  1. leave (a place), usually permanently.

I think it is safe to say that Marina Shifrin is leaving an activity as a means of earning income, permanently.

Probably not the most professional thing to do, but in the end maybe the smartest thing she has ever done.

And props to the company for making the best out of a funny situation.
